1. Is your job as glamorous as we all think it is?
My job is fantastic, but it's certainly not as glamorous as people think. The job is great in the respect that you get to see and drive lots of great
cars, meet loads of great people and really be part of something. But I don't think people fully appreciate the amount of work that goes into making
the mag, the hours are long and you end up travelling 1000s of miles every month. The average working week is 70 hours, but there is far worst things I
could be doing. You have to love the scene to do this job, but I'm not sure it should ever be described as glamorous, if you'd seen some of the places
I've ended up sleeping or going ha ha!
2. Max Power has been known to launch people into stardom. Do you want to be the next Vicki B-H? (without the sex change)
No not really, I love the attention but having touched the TV world a few times (in small ways) I really don't think it's for me. Also the few
celebrities that have crossed our paths are enough to put me off any sort of fame. Mainly though I love hanging out within the scene at cruises and
shows, I'm not really a champagne drinking posh nightclub type of person.
3. What do you prefer, partying with modifiers & cruisers or clubbing?
Ooops sort of answered that one above, I love a good party and some of my best nights out have been hanging out with modders after shows or just going out drinking with club members. I love the people I meet within this community and they are generally much more fun than a nightclub. I love
being part of the big modding family. Also I'm way too old for clubbing and if you'd ever seen me dance then you'd agree that I should never enter a
nightclub.
4. Jap, German or French?
There's a place in my heart for all of these as I have built all over the years. I love the jap scene as there is a real focus or power and speed.
However I am currently building a VW and absolutely loving it. The only thing I don't like within these categories is snobbery, and people
suggesting there are fixed rules, I say let people be creative.
5. Pink or Brown? (You know I have to ask that, its THE LAW)
Ha ha! Good work, obviously in snooker the pink is worth more and I generally find that to be true in life. There's a lot of good things that
are pink out there.
6. Do you have a background in journalism or did you fall into by accident?
By trade I am a trained graphic designer and started out wanting to get into magazines. I have worked for ad agencies and newspapers before scoring a job with Revs and then Max. After a few years art editing max I was asked to edit and the rest is history.
7. How do you view the modifying scene as it is just now?
I think over the years it has become a little disjointed. This can be good as we have seen a lot of different styles and tastes emerge, but on a whole
I feel it has become too divided. There are lots of people who look down on others because they haven't got the right rims or stickers etc... I feel for
this scene to continue to grow, despite the outside worlds perceptions we all need to come together more and be far more united. The Cruising scene
seems to be gaining a fresh momentum so I hope we are seeing this begin to happen, maybe this is something good to come out of the recession.
8. What are the current modifying trends & are they different in different parts of the country?
I don't think the trends are that regional, but I do think clubs and their locations play a part in certain areas having more concentrated styles than
others. The current trends that we are seeing across the country at the moment is things like painted rims, especially in bright colours and
attention to detail. Lots of people are making subtle changes, this I feel is down to the enthusiast factor, it's almost like a game of 'can you spot
what we've changed' mixed with peoples desire for perfection. I personally like this approach as it is normally pursued by the more passionate of
modders. Things to look out for are vehicle wraps, they offer such flexibility and options, they just need to drop in price a little.
One thing we have also noticed is lots more DIY mods, which is great, I love the thought of people getting involved and not just sending their car away.
9. What do you think is the UKs 'clit car'
The most popular at the moment has to be the golf, there is such a range available at good prices its no surprise we are seeing a lot of these. I
don't think this is a bad thing as all the MKs are being modded and its a very cool car.
10. What do you keep in your glovebox?
Mainly energy drink, music and chocolate wrappers. However the other day I did have a rummage and find two toy cars, result!
